The project involved the safe removal and disposal of approximately 5500m² of asbestos roof and wall cladding, and replacement of the removed asbestos with architect designed Colorbond roofing and cladding. The high risk nature of the roofing works, at height over a full size swimming pool and basketball court, with no existing safety mesh was completed with zero Workplace Safety incidents.

The entire building and its contents were then decontaminated by detailed HEPA Vacuum Cleaning and Wet Wiping of all surfaces, done under controlled conditions and within a Negative Air environment. Full birdcage scaffolding was erected within the building to achieve these works. A total of 60,000 bags of contaminated soil were also removed from the sub-floor of the building, which was removed manually.

Bureau Veritas supervised all the works on site with daily air monitoring and Clearance Certificates issued on cleared stages.
